-
Package one
Galette et crêpe
One galette and one crêpe each · 3 hours of service
A galette from the savoury side of the carte, then a crêpe once the plates come back. Two billigs turn out about 90 galettes an hour, which is exactly why the guest list stops at 180.
€14 per guest From 40 guests, or €560 -
Package two
Longue soirée
Two galettes and one crêpe each · 4 hours of service
For the evening that is still going when the light goes, and the guests who come back to the hatch a second time.
€19 per guest 40 to 180 guests -
After 23:00
The late galette-saucisse round
A grilled sausage rolled in a galette, for whoever is still dancing.
+€4 per guest -
Add-on
Extra hour, €90.
On either package.
Vegetarian fillings are always on, and vegan galettes can be made on request. The galette batter is buckwheat, water and grey salt with no wheat, but it is cooked beside wheat crêpes, so we cannot promise it is safe for coeliacs. There is more on that in the long section about buckwheat.
How an evening runs
An Hour Early, Half an Hour to Pack
Times count from the start of service you choose. An extra hour moves the third line along and nothing else.
- One hour before The van arrives Through a gateway at least 2.5 m wide, onto the patch of ground you have kept for us.
- The next 45 minutes Setup, and one galette for the bin Level the van, light the gas under both billigs, lift the hatch, lean the chalkboard on the rear wheel. The first galette seasons the plate and is thrown away, at a wedding as at the market.
- 3 or 4 hours Service About 90 galettes an hour, cooked one at a time and handed straight across the counter. Crêpes follow as the savoury queue thins.
- 30 minutes after Packing down Gas off, plates left to cool, hatch down. The lawn goes back to being a lawn.
Practicalities
What the Van Needs From Your Lawn
Read this before writing. If every line here is a yes, the date is the only question left.
- Guests
- 40 to 180 people
- The minimum is 40 guests, or €560. Past 180 the queue gets longer than the evening.
- Days
- Thursday, Friday evening, Saturday from 17:00, Sunday afternoon
- The rest of the week is the market round. Closed the last two weeks of August and from 24 December to 10 January.
- Ground
- 6 m by 3 m, flat and firm
- Grass is fine when it is firm. A slope is not; the batter runs downhill.
- Access
- 2.5 m wide, with 2.6 m of headroom
- Check the gateposts and the lowest branch on the drive before you write.
- Power
- None needed
- The billigs run on bottled gas carried in the van. You do not need to find a socket.
- Travel
- Free within 30 km of central Rennes
- Beyond that, €1.20 per km of the round trip, up to 80 km and not one further.
- Deposit
- 30% holds the date
- The balance is due 7 days before. Cancel more than 60 days ahead and the deposit comes back in full.
- Notice
- 6 weeks for summer weekends
- May to September; most summer Saturdays are gone by March. Otherwise allow 3 weeks.
- Menu
- Settled by the Monday of event week
- The batter is made on Tuesday and rests at least 24 hours, so a later change cannot be made.
Give us the date, the town and the guest count. We answer within two working days, never on a Tuesday.
What we turn down
A Short List of Polite Refusals
None of these bend, which saves everyone a message.
- Further than 80 km.Wherever you are, however nicely you ask. A village at 95 km is still 95 km.
- More than 180 guests. We will not bring a second van we do not own.
- Indoors.The billigs need sky.
- Saturday mornings. That belongs to the market in the centre.
- Tuesdays.Tuesday is for batter.
- Drop-off catering. No batter delivery, and no lending out the billigs. The van comes with Gwenn or not at all.
- Your logo on a crêpe.No.
- Jarred hazelnut spread. There is chocolate sauce, and it is ours.
- Wheat flour in a galette.Nor sweet fillings in one. That is what crêpes are for.
